Description
Summary:Janete Costa (1932-2008) used the areas of interior architecture, object design, restoration, preservation of historical assets and exhibition designs as platforms to promote popular art and handicrafts. Besides specifying craft objects in her interior designs and guiding artisans to better introduce their work in the consumer chain, she started to promote exhibitions to publicize these works and educate the public. Since the 1980s, Costa has acted as curator and producer, and been responsible for the exhibition design of numerous exhibitions. If her interiors design works has only recently received the attention of the academy, there are no studies on her work in exhibitions. From a survey of all her exhibitions, this paper aims to explore the Costa´s exhibition design universe, particularly those related to popular art and handicrafts.  Three exhibitions will be analyzed with more detail – Que Chita Bacana (2005), Uma Vida (2007) and Nordeste: Territórios Plurais, Culturais e Direitos Coletivos (2008)- observing aspects such as the design and treatment decisions, the chosen paths, the relationship with the buildings that housed these exhibitions, the projects of supports, windows, septa, and the lighting effects, as well as the relationships with their interior projects.
