| Summary: | We arrived in Aparecida, São Paulo, on April 22, 2017. We knew very little, or almost nothing, about the Congada gathering and the Feast of São Benedito, which was already in its 108th edition. The challenge of conducting a joint ethnography of this event - with a group of anthropologists (and friends), with common affinities, but who study such diverse themes as popular music, shamanism, public policies and Catholicism - was what most motivated us to face such an undertaking (which would prove much more tiring than we could imagine). Multiple eyes, multiple perspectives, no "specialist". |
