| Summary: | Listening to and seeing marginal music through participant activism brings ethnomusicologists face-to-face with our choice of research topic, with self-reflexivity, and with the contest of musical value in local power politics. Moreover, they offer us new methods, such as the ethnographic film, dialogic participation, and a wider distribution and impact for our scholarly output as well as its significance. In this chapter, I explore how South Asian activist ethnomusicology can contribute as methodology and theory to the discipline of ethnomusicology as a whole. |
