Description
Summary:This article aims to present a discussion about the strategies of agencying popular material culture in an exhibition. To do so, we analyze an excerpt from the exhibition Puras Misturas, which was on display from April to September 2010 at the Pavilhão das Culturas Brasileiras, where stools produced in different contexts - hegemonic and subaltern - in Brazil were exhibited. As a methodological strategy, we cross-referenced the materiality of the exhibition, accessed through its expographic project, with the narratives of the curators who conceived the exhibition. Finally, we demonstrate that the ways of presenting popular artifacts in Puras Misturas structured arguments that ended up straining the discourses planned for the exhibition arena.
