Description
Summary:Introduction: Humanity has experienced major transformations in the organization, treatment and access to information, motivated by advances in digital technologies and the intensive use of information technologies. However, despite the advantages allowed by technological advances in terms of storage and transfer power, the durability and possibility of preservation of information recorded in digital media still remains a long-term challenge. Objective: To analyze the relationship between digital preservation in digital repositories of Brazilian Federal College Units and their institutionalized documentation. Methodology: The study was characterized as descriptive, qualitative and quantitative in nature, using document analysis and text mining as a data collection technique. The investigation criteria were based on the contextualization of the terms preserve, preservation and/or digital preservation, the survey of actions, strategies and practices of digital preservation and the terminologies adopted in the institutionalized documentation. Results: It is noticed that the digital repositories of the Brazilian Federal College Units do not have institutionalized documents that meet the specificities of the preservation planning, foreseen and being an essential element in the reference model of the Open Archival Information System (OAIS). Conclusion: Digital Preservation requires planning, policies, plans, human resources and technological infrastructure to meet the principle of making digital artifacts accessible with quality of authenticity, thus, in addition to inserting the term digital preservation in their institutional documents, Universities need to weave specific documents for the issue of digital preservation.
