| Summary: | Introduction: Citizen science has grown as an effective approach to involve the public in data collection and analysis in various fields of scientific research. Digital preservation of the data generated in these projects is crucial to ensure the sustainability and accessibility of the resources for future research and practical applications. Objective: This study aims to propose indicators and a digital preservation workflow for citizen science projects. Methodology: Through a literature review on digital preservation and citizen science, we identified relevant principles and challenges, and selected digital preservation indicators. Based on these indicators, we developed a workflow for digital preservation processes in citizen science projects. Results: The selected indicators include accessibility, authenticity, integrity, interoperability, and sustainability. A five-step workflow was developed, covering data collection and storage, normalization and standardization, preservation and redundancy, access and sharing, and monitoring and evaluation. Conclusion: The application of the proposed indicators and workflow in citizen science projects can ensure the effective and sustainable preservation of collected and generated data and digital resources, promoting collaboration and innovation in scientific research. The implementation of this workflow and the continuous evaluation of the indicators can guide citizen science projects in the proper management of digital resources and in promoting the advancement of scientific knowledge. |
