Summary:This article aims to address the impacts generated by the oil disaster in the lives of the Artisanal Fishing Peoples in the Metropolitan Region of Greater Recife, Pernambuco. In light of the above, the research asks: who are the artisanal fishermen and fisherwomen affected by the oil disaster? What were the impacts of the oil disaster on artisanal fishing in Pernambuco, especially on the Metropolitan Coast of Pernambuco? To what extent did it affect the work, trade, and life of the Artisanal Fishermen? The methodological procedure was based on a quantitative study. The results point to: the traditional characteristics of fishing practiced by the interviewees; the great drop in the income of the artisanal fishermen during and even after the disaster; the issue of injustice and environmental racism present therein.
