| Summary: | In the last decade, Bolivia and its region have undergone profound changes in terms of population mobility dynamics, where “migration in transit” is the most prominent element due to the growing presence of extra-regional (Haitians) and regional migrants (especially Venezuelans), which added to the traditional national migratory dynamics, produced new spatialities and practices around mobility. At the same time, the intensification of migration and border controls has one of its main expressions in the increased use of punitive or repressive measures such as militarization, detention, expulsion and rejection at the border. These new labor migrations disrupted the regional border order and gave rise to different control practices. In these new contexts, the borders of Bolivia (Pisiga) and Chile (Colchane) play a fundamental role. |
