Description
Summary:Based on the concepts of distribution of the sensible (Rancière) and the reception of antiquity, the article analyzes a political cartoon that depicts Karl Marx, at that time editor of the newspaper Rheinische Zeitung, as the mythical figure of the Titan Prometheus. The text examines how the cartoon was produced as a critique of the Prussian censorship code, addressing the meaning of the cartoon's elements re-signified in the Greek mythical narrative. It is discussed how antiquity is appropriated as a rhetorical element by the cartoonist and how it is possible to approach the theme of the reception of antiquity in caricatures.
