Description
Summary:This study aims to identify the meanings attributed to the practice of police approach in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, concerning women involved in crime, specifically drug trafficking. Initially, a literature review was conducted on police approach and the construction of reasonable suspicion. Methodologically, semi-structured interviews were conducted with military police officers working in MG. The results indicate that the construction of reasonable suspicion incorporates a subjective element, based on the values and beliefs of the police officers. Additionally, it is highlighted that the approach to women is minimal due to these same beliefs and values, as well as the expectations regarding the institutional consequences and the impact that approaching women can have on the officers' careers.
