Description
Summary:This article deals with an analysis of voluntary competitions for teachers in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions through a study of the representation of this professional. The approach was mixed, using a quantitative survey of competitions in Brazilian territory (using descriptive statistics) and the analysis of some of the notices (using a categorical content analysis seeking representation) through repraesontology. The conclusions showed that the competitions have expanded unevenly and with more force in the southeast and northeast, in addition to the fact that volunteers undergo evaluations that sometimes place them on an equal footing with other permanent teachers, and sometimes distance them, which puts the volunteer teacher as a very specific activity in the Brazilian educational field.
