| Summary: | This study analyzes graphic protocols related to copying in school notebooks used by children in primary schools in Rio Grande do Sul during the period from 1898 to 1940, which are available in the collection of the Center for Memory and Historical Research on Literacy, Reading, Writing, and School Books (Hisales). In line with the studies of Hébrard (2001), Chartier (2002), Viñao Frago (2008), and Castillo Gómez (2012), among other authors, school notebooks are understood not only as recording supports but also as graphic learning tools that reflect the written culture of their time. The analysis of the 10 notebooks reveals the presence of a variety of texts copied, either in full or in part, by the learners, a pedagogical practice for teaching writing that was widely employed during that time. |
