| Summary: | Objective: identification of the digital preservation potentialities and weaknesses related to the game "The Revolt of Cabanagem", title produced between2006 and 2009 in the Virtual Reality Laboratory related to the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Telecommunications in the Federal University of Pará. The article was justified in presenting information on a pioneering game in the northern region of Brazil which shows information about the history of Cabanagem (revolt occurred in Pará between 1835 and 1840) Methodology: based on case study, it was verified the files used for the development of the game, how the data storage is being carried out, identification of the game’s intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics, and possible digital preservation strategies for the title, based on interviews with the game's developers in different medias. Initially, the research presents a brief historical contextualization of video games, followed by an analysis about the support documental and informational characteristics, and a brief description about the game "The Revolt of Cabanagem". Results: the research identifies that, although much of the game’s features are available, the title shows some weaknesses that partially prejudice its gameplay, also verified difficulty for its download and considerable risk of a total loss, due to the absence of maintenance on the game. Conclusion: despite these limitations, the research identifies potential for other studies about the digital preservation of electronic games in Pará. |
