Description
Summary:This paper aims to provide a brief review of the main pedagogical strands materialized in Brazilian Education, with an emphasis on the natural sciences education (NSE), between the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as their ideological bases. Furthermore, we present different references based on a critical paradigm, to discuss their contributions to the NSE. Specifically, we focus on Freire's Liberating Education. In this sense, we position ourselves alongside critical-transformative trends, as we understand that the current conditions of domination by part of society over others is humanity's greatest current obstacle. Finally, we consider that Liberating Education can bring great contributions to teaching in this area, through problem-posing and dialogue. In these terms, it is possible to develop science teaching that aims to reveal and overcome the limit situations that exist both in the reality of students and in this area of knowledge itself.
