| Summary: | The “monosexual” category has appeared on the Brazilian political context in recent years, especially in the debates promoted by the bisexual movement and contemporary bisexuality research. However, there is a lack of systematic reflection on its circulation, its uses and the classifications induced by this category in relation to gender and sexuality. To this end, I reviewed the scientific and activist bibliography from Brazil and worldwide to analyze it, identifying the historical processes of change in which the emergence of the “monosexual” category is situated and interferes. Rather than being a new creation of the bisexual movement, the “monosexual” category has a distant scientific origin and has recent appropriations that are not always restricted to its political uses, including in Brazil. Its instrumentalization has been an important piece to the emergence of new political actors and social movement negotiations involving the formation of new classificatory levels of sexuality. |
