| Summary: | The aim of this essay is to show, using a few photographs as a guiding thread, the multiplicity of webs that exist within the space of a kitchen. The impetus to record the making of coxinhas in the kitchen of my own home came suddenly, spontaneously and not at all planned. It was only in the middle of preparing the coxinhas, a delicacy of the utmost importance to one of the women portrayed, that I thought of the possibility of anthropologically recording the relationships produced in the kitchen. The popular saying ‘the occasion makes the thief’ serves to exemplify how the process of making this visual essay came about. It was by observing the way Marlene, a friend and former neighbour of my mother's, made and shaped the coxinhas that I realised the wealth of detail involved. |
