Summary:This year, we celebrate the 85th anniversary of the first course in the field of food and nutrition in Brazil, the course “Food Assistants”, created by Francisco Pompêo do Amaral at the Superintendency of Professional Education of São Paulo, with the publication of the manuscript of the speech given by Pompêo do Amaral for being awarded the National Food Prize for his work “Food in São Paulo in the period of 1940 – 1951”, with the collaboration of dieticians, in the Food Research and Teaching Section of the School Food and Hygiene Service. The award was granted by the Social Security Food Service in 1954. The manuscript is in the personal archive of Debble Smaíra Pasotti, who kept the doctor's books, correspondence and reports throughout her life.
