Description
Summary:In order to ascertain the validity of the “unequal exchange” theses derived from dependency theory and to collaborate in understanding Brazil’s position in the world market, the present work analyzes the value flows (in terms of labor hours) resulting from international exchange involving the Brazilian economy. To do so, we present a summary of the debate on unequal exchange, together with the methodology for calculating transfers through international transactions. As a result, we indicate the net position and the trend of flows for each of the country’s main trading partners, showing that Brazil’s semi-peripheral position was fundamental to the result achieved in the period.
