O objetivo do artigo é lançar hipóteses explicativas a respeito da adesão da classe média à candidatura e ao governo de Jair Bolsonaro, entendidos aqui como uma ameaça neofascista. Para tanto, identifica a origem do processo nas manifestaçõesde junho de 2013. Na sequência, discute o papel da Operação Lava Jato na legitimação de métodos de exceção, os quais se apresentaram como formas de garantir a ideologia meritocrática. Por fim, aponta o fortalecimento de um campo liberal-conservador, em defesa da família e da propriedade privada, que permitiu tanto ampliar a base social do bolsonarismo quanto atender ao programa neoliberal do capital financeiro.
