Description
Summary:Inspired by the most advanced visual techniques, the film project of Dziga Vertov sought to capture “life in itself”. Studying it in its historicity, the author reconstructs its lines of force, the scope and limits of the Cinema-Eye, its overcoming by Cinema Verité, the importance of film editing, the debates in which Vertov became involved, his relations with groups of vanguard (Russian constructivism in particular), the political disputes in the cultural field etc. He also discusses the reception in France of Vertov’s legacy for cinema when his work finally could be recognized, not only in opposition to Eisenstein, but also related to him.
