Description
Summary:This contribution is part of the debate on research into explanatory foundations for the historical dynamics of modes of production, in particular on the emergence of capitalism. This question is studied within the scope of the internal debate of analytical Marxism. While Cohen elaborates a theory of history based on the development of productive forces, completed by Roemer's analysis articulated by the theory of rational choice, Brenner proposes a more empirical historiography based on the rationality of actors. The article defends the possibility of complementarity between these interpretations.
