Description
Summary:The primitive accumulation of capital included several factors that allowed the development of industrial capital as an autonomous force. The rupture in the European pre-capitalist order occured from a set of social, economic, financial and political factors that established the necessary conditions for the development of capitalism as a historically defined mode of production. The issue addressed in this article refers to the specific role that public debt and state intervention through this financial mechanism represented in the chain and constitution of primitive accumulation. Our hypothesis is that public debt enables: i) the mobilizationand transfer mass of values enhancing the dispossession of properties; ii) the establishment of credit and institutional conditions necessary to shape the modern capitalist credit system; iii) the spatial conformation of capitalism in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
