Description
Summary:This work continues the homonymous text published in this journal (2021), trying to explore not so much a review of personalities who marked the history of art in Brazil, but above all weaving an analytical outline of the discourse that underlies some of the best-known “general” stories of Brazilian art, in order to reveal historiographical and aesthetic mentalities in these narratives. To this end, descriptions and discursive comparisons are produced between various historiographical milestones – from 1888 to 1983. In between, what is perhaps the burning issue of current historiographical work is highlighted, namely, the presumed absence of female, indigenous and Afro-Brazilian artists in the idiosyncrasies of another modernity.
