Entre outras consequências políticas, a queda do Muro de Berlim em 1989 colocou em risco a continuidade do projeto da edição da obra completa de Marx e Engels – MEGA, na sigla alemã – que conseguiu sobreviver graças a um giro de perspectiva editorial, explicado no artigo. O trabalho passou para a responsabilidade da Academia de Ciências de Berlim e recebeu um caráter mais filológico do que diretamente político, orientando-se pelo objetivo de contribuir para pesquisas científicas sobre as obras e ospensamentos de Marx e de Engels. As vantagens daí decorrentes e a crítica da perspectiva política das edições anteriores são o objeto do presente texto. Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
