Para qualquer espírito sem preconceitos, a obra de P. Bourdieu impõe-se, pela sua amplitude e pela acuidade das suas intuições, como uma das grandes obras teóricas do século XX. No entanto, sua recepção é paradoxal: as leituras dominantes no mercado editorial cujos mecanismos ele desmonta de resto tão bem nos apresentam um Bourdieu próximo da filosofia americana de inspiração analítica ou de um Wittgenstein e de sua teoria dos jogos de linguagem e das formas de vida, um recente número da revista Critique constitui um excelente exemplo desta interpretação.
