Em primeiro lugar, a autora elege como objeto de seu estudo a obra de um pensador social que não tem atraído, pelo menos nas últimas décadas, a atenção da intelectualidade brasileira, majoritariamente hostil, na fase atual, às bandeiras positivistas, e tendencialmente reticente (há exceções, é claro) quanto à conveniência e ao interesse de se realizar estudos aprofundados sobre a obra de Comte. Em segundo lugar, o investimento intelectual de Lelita, no cumprimento dessa tarefa, é de grandes proporções, raramente encontradas nas teses brasileiras de doutorado (pois que se trata de uma).
