Description
Summary:This article presents a reflection on gestures of insurgency against artistic productions in Brazilian cities in the 21st century and, more specifically, against the mural Do Orun ao Aiye: Afrika Elementar, produced by Nathê Ferreira, Adelson Boris and Emerson Crazy, in the city of Recife in 2021. Based on a bibliographical review, it explores the desires of images and possible insurgent gestures against them. It concludes that the insurgent gesture of demonization against the analyzed mural does not only signal a religious motivation but reveals the persistence of a racialized regime of representation and stereotyping against black populations, that can jeopardize the integrity of the Brazilian cities’ artistic heritage.
