Neste artigo, trato do Nove, um rito cinético-musical marcado pela poesia cantada e por danças coletivas, realizado no Médio Jequitinhonha, em Minas Gerais. O Brinquedo é associado ao chamado princípio do mundo, tempo marcado por encantos, segredos, e no qual todos os seres tinham a faculdade da fala. Ao considerar alguns elementos do Nove, com destaque para o dispositivo de alternância do canto, além de questões relativas ao repertório, busco detalhá-los e analisá-los para argumentar que o rito acaba por refazer, ou atualizar, o chamado princípio do mundo.
