Summary:As is well known, cattle make up the landscapes of the São Francisco river backlands and they presence is undeniably one of the major forces shaping the landscape, political relations and economic realities of these regions. Considering this, this paper seeks to understand the ways of breeding and relationships betwen riverside quilombolas and catlle. Through a historical review of the cattle introduction in the backlands, the objective is argue about their presence in riverside from the quilombola perspective. Adoptin a multispecies approach, the paper also seeks to comprehend the rules of conviviality among livings.
