Description
Summary:This paper critically examines the Brazilian meat industry, focusing on the case of the world’s largest corporation, JBS. By assessing the role of public and foreign investments, it highlights the stark contrast between the company’s exponential growth, fuelled by government policies and international institutions, and the escalating social inequalities in Brazil over the past decade (2013–2023), where the corporation is based. The key findings reveal the existence of a long-term state project to create a giant enterprise, a comprehensive network of transnational shareholders, and an accumulation system in which profits benefit only a small elite.
