Summary:This article aims to examine some of the ways in which capitalism subjugates lifetime to work time. It is argued throughout the text that contemporary society can be defined as a performance society, in which productivity demands, dictated by capital, progressively appropriate individuals’ lifetime. Thus, behind the performance society lies the burnout society, composed of thousands of workers who have fallen ill due to the neoliberal logic of production.
