| Summary: | What are cowboys’ memories capable of creating? Based on my conversations with two cowboys from Floresta, a municipality in the semi-arid region of Pernambuco, Brazil, I seek to analyze and understand what and to whom the stories they tell are linked. The act of narrating here is close to the cowboy (and polysemic) notion of criação: just as they create their animals, cowboys cultivate the orality of the world, where animals, words, stories and feelings create and are created mutually. Analyzing how memory, the ecology of the Caatinga, the art of narrating and the affections provoked by them are implicated in each other is the central objective of this article. |
