O que as memórias dos vaqueiros sertanejos podem e são capazes de criar? A partir de minhas conversas com dois vaqueiros de Floresta, município do semiárido pernambucano, procuro analisar e entender a que e a quem estão atreladas as histórias por eles contadas. O ato de narrar, aqui, aproxima-se da noção vaqueira (e polissêmica) de criação: assim como criam seus animais, os vaqueiros cultivam a oralidade do mundo, onde bichos, palavras, histórias e sentimentos criam e são criados mutuamente. Analisar como a memória, a ecologia da Caatinga, a arte de narrar e os afetos por elas provocados estão implicados uns nos outros é o objetivo central deste artigo. Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
