| Summary: | In Revolución – Una historia intelectual, Enzo Traverso presents a multifaceted overview of the notion of revolution. The idea of “overview” should be emphasized because, methodologically, that is what it is: a view, sometimes comprehensive, sometimes magnified, of how revolution has become a cultural element of our time. The idea of image is fundamental: Traverso proposes to carry out a Benjaminian historiography, anchored in the notion of dialectical image (p. 49), a kind of collage of images (p. 50) or a film with a sui generis montage (p. 51). Therefore, those who expect a systematic history of revolutions will be disappointed. The approach is different: from a positivist point of view, the book sounds evocative and loose in its internal connections. However, it must be judged by what it proposes, and in this regard, it must be recognized that the work is successful. |
