Description
Summary:This article investigates the intrinsic connection between an individual’s life and the ideas and conceptions expressed in their intellectual output, taking as it´s object of analysis part of the formative trajectory of Mário Barata (1921–2007). His path, marked by a diversity of experiences, provides an opportunity to examine the different ways in which the professional formation of art historians in Brazil was structured before the establishment of specialized courses in the field. In this sense, the study focuses on the period spanning from the second half of the 1930s to the end of the 1960s, seeking to understand how this heterogeneous training was reflected in Barata’s conception of the field of Art History.
