Description
Summary:This article investigates photography in publications from the 1940s and 1950s, analyzing its formal and ideological aspects as a visual culture that actively participates in constructing collective imaginaries. It examines Marcel Gautherot’s image of the Tocantins Railway in the album Brésil, published in France in 1950. This image is compared to a set of 84 photographs by Gautherot on the same subject, which remained unpublished and are now preserved in an institutional archive. It is also compared to photographs from other archives. Through image analysis from art history and visual culture studies, the research reveals the ideologies involved in Brésil's editorial process and seeks dissident narratives present in Gautherot’s work.
