| Summary: | This article analyzes the debate proposed by Alfredo Sousa, an art critic affiliated with the Folha do Norte newspaper (1896), regarding certain works exhibited by the Amazonian artist and historian Theodoro Braga (1872–1953) between 1906 and 1911. Our aim is to bring to light art criticism as a field of debate that directly contributed to the consolidation of the art system in the city of Belém at the beginning of the 20th century. The article also seeks to present works and introduce, into a broader discussion, figures who still remain on the margins of major studies on the history of Brazilian art criticism. |
