Description
Summary:This study presents the dialogue between the Memorial of Colégio Farroupilha, located in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and the Museum of Azorean Emigration on São Miguel Island, Azores. The collaboration emerged from a project supported in 2018 and 2022 under the provisions of Ordinance No. 68/2008 (August 11), through funding granted by the Regional Directorate for Communities. The aim is to examine the visited museological space, its history and collection, and to analyze the cultural connections between Brazil and the Azores, shaped by historical processes of emigration and immigration. The study also highlights educational practices jointly undertaken by the two institutions. Methodologically, the research relied on interviews and document analysis, including panels, photographs, videos, and Azorean cultural artifacts. The interaction among museums, schools, and the public transcends traditional functions of preservation, conservation, exhibition, and research. By addressing themes of migration, these museums reveal cultural, social, and moral diversity, along with the challenges of contemporary inclusion—contributing to broader reflections on these issues. This study thus proposes a reflection on the similarities between the two museological institutions in terms of their role in preserving and safeguarding the historical memory of migration between Brazil and the Azores.
