| Summary: | The article analyzes the form of four photomontages from the book A Pintura em Pânico (1943) by the poet Jorge de Lima and uses the couplets and texts external to the book (critical essays, biographical accounts, interviews, poems) to explore the multiplicity of subjects and themes addressed by the poet through his montages. The theme of the crisis of modernity and the fragmentation of unity was selected to confront the montages. In this sense, the study draws on Peter Bürger’s Theory of the Avant-Garde (1970), on Surrealism, and on the critique of the modernization process experienced in Brazil during the 20th century, in coherence with the poet’s critical reception. |
