The results are widely used by the community in the research works and consequent publications. In order to assess the quality of analytical results obtained, in a biannual basis, the laboratory voluntarily participates in the international proficiency test GeoPT™. GeoPT™ is a well-established proficiency test and widely used by research, commercial and univesity laboratories, involved in geological material analysis. Each GeoPT™ test round involves a homogeneous sample distribution to participating laboratories. The laboratories must submit the sample received to their analytical routine. The frequent participation on the international proficiency teste enables the critical assessment on the analytical results obtained by the Geochemistry and Isotope Geology Laboratories. The test organizers perform a statistic assessment of the results received and a Z score is calculated; for each information submitted by the participating laboratories, a Z score in the ±2 range is considered as satisfactory. The results obtained show the laboratory's participation and performance on the GeoPT™ proficiency test in the period from July 2010 to July 2014. In summary, 377 results were sent, from which 90% presented satisfactory values (-2<Z<2 score). Only 4.5% obtained unsatisfactory results (Z>3 ou Z<-3 score) and 5.5% of the results presented 2<Z<3 and ---3<Z<-2 score. |

A determinação de elementos maiores, menores e traços em materiais geológicos é realizada rotineiramente no Laboratório de Geoquímica Analítica e no Laboratório de Geologia Isotópica do IG utilizando as técnicas fluorescência de raios X (FRX) e espectrometria de massas com fonte de plasma acoplado por indução (ICP-MS) respectivamente. Os resultados são amplamente utilizados pela comunidade nos trabalhos de pesquisa e consequentes publicações. Para avaliar a qualidade dos resultados analíticos obtidos, semestralmente, o laboratório voluntariamente participa do teste de proficiência internacional GeoPT™. O GeoPT™ é um teste de proficiência bem estabelecido e amplamente utilizado por laboratórios de pesquisa, comerciais e de universidades envolvidos com análises de materiais geológicos. Cada rodada do teste GeoPT™ envolve a distribuição de uma amostra homogênea para os laboratórios participantes. Os laboratórios devem submeter a amostra recebida à sua rotina analítica. A participação frequente no teste de proficiência internacional permite avaliar criticamente os resultados analíticos obtidos pelos Laboratórios de Geoquímica e Geologia Isotópica. Os organizadores do teste realizam uma avaliação estatística dos resultados recebidos e um escore Z é calculado, para cada dado submetido pelos laboratórios participantes sendo considerado satisfatório um Z score no intervalo de ±2. Os resultados obtidos mostram a participação e desempenho do laboratório no teste de proficiência GeoPT™ no período de junho de 2010 até julho de 2014. Em resumo, foram enviados 377 resultados dos quais 90% apresentaram valores satisfatórios (escore -2<Z<2). Somente 4,5% obtiveram resultados insatisfatórios (escore Z>3 ou Z<-3) e 5,5% dos resultados apresentaram escore 2<Z<3 e ---3<Z<-2.
