| Summary: | Brazil's official language is Portuguese. However, with Law 10.436/2002, the Brazilian Sign Language - LIBRAS -, natural language of the Brazilian deaf citizens, was also recognized. The legitimization of their language has enabled the access by deaf people to the most varied social spaces, among them, the educational space. At Unicamp, this students' path began with the participation of the study and research group on deaf people education (1998), occasion in which the translation and interpretation service was made, in a volunteering way, by one Unicamp's bilingual pedagogue. With the linguistic accessibility, enabling the access and permanence of deaf people in the university's research groups, more people were added, culminating with the entrance of two female students in the College of Education's master program, whose fact demanded the translation and interpretation offer, with hiring of Libras' Interpreters and Translators - TILS. However, this kind of hiring did not meet all the needs in the academic space, being the deaf people's participation restricted to classrooms. With the purpose of providing an effective inclusion of these students, the TILS Center (2014) was created, through the temporary recruitment process, and subsequently, public examination. Currently, all TILS have a degree with mayor and/or proficiency in Sign Language. The realization of Libras' translation and interpretation service offer provides the whole deaf community with the access to an education with quality. |
