| Summary: | Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) encompasses the proposed methods and materials for the people with speech impairment. In this work, we investigate the AAC theme out of the impairment context, proposing a playful system, in order to promote communication abilities, social interaction and idea association, via tangible technology. In order to create an exploratory scenario, we implemented a guessing game, in which the users use cards to communicate, by the choice of representative pictures, in reference to the use of communication boards/cards used with people with speech impairment. The system is manipulated by RFID cards, in which the RFID reader is the responsible for reading the RFID card codes and send them to the computer, which, on its turn, is totally hidden by the use of cards. Results from workshops with kids and teachers of a partner institution evidenced that they were able to communicate without needing to use speech. The results also suggest that the environment design that provided the communication, based in contemporary technologies, can still be widely explored. In future works, we hope to still expand the use of interaction ways that maximize communication. |
