Description
Summary:The influenza surveillance, based on the detection of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) cases in health services, is one of the strategies to be carried out by all hospitals in national scope, with assessment of the morbidity-mortality associated to the respiratory viruses as one of the goals. Among the actions performed, the following ones are included: daily active search in admission unit, the case notification to the National Disease Notification System, the collection and sending of biological samples to carry out specific laboratory examinations, the suspicious death investigation and the guidance on prevention measures and transmission control in hospital environment, collaborating for a skilled medical assistance. In 2016, the further circulation of the A H1N1 virus was observed, resulting in a significant impact on health services. Thus, aiming the SARS surveillance system qualification, the HC-UNICAMP's Epidemiological Surveillance Center adopted a set of interventions with the various professional groups, medical specialties and hospital sectors: daily ward guidance about treatment and laboratory investigation protocols in force, preparation of specific technical bulletin, scientific meeting oriented to health professionals and organization of inputs oriented to collect biological material to be examined ("influenza kit"). Until the Epidemiological Week 30 of 2015, 108 notifications were made with 27 (25%) samples collected and 3 (11%) positive, while in 2016, in the same period, there were 232 notifications and 156 (67%) samples collected, with 27 (17%) positive, showing a significant increase after interventions.
