| Summary: | Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease, mainly characterized by a chronic hyperglycemic condition, resulting from insufficient action and/or secretion of insulin, which increases the risks of macro and microvascular changes. Since it is a disease whose treatment demands major changes on patient&";s lifestyle and behavior, the DM sees in education about the disease and how to care a major tool for handling and control. In patients with insulin, the treatment complexity increases significantly. In health prevention and education, WHO contemplates knowledge and information about the DM as a basic aspect, with great relevance, for the patient to be able to make conscious decisions, compatible to their health, being able to face difficulties and uncertainty on the daily life with more safety. In general, it is the nurse&";s responsibility to empower patients not only for handling, but also for insulin self-administration on daily life. With this, the purpose was to build an educative instrument with easy interpretation, to help the type-2 diabetic patient handle therapy with insulin, with multiple dosages. For this purpose, we carried out a survey on didactic material available, as well as on instruments about the issue among the main references recognized on the subject. The following aspects were considered: disease concept, types of diabetes and insulin, preparation and application areas, types of syringe, storage, transporte care, food recommendations and physical exercise practices. Our intention was to build and present this instrument. |
