Description
Summary:The super-economic aerators are parts installed in taps, which aim to provide water saving, decreasing its flow and keeping the use convenience by the user. A project was prepared with the purpose of promoting the rational water use and optimize the University resources through the installation of super-economic aerators in sink taps from Unicamp's Barão Geraldo campus Units and Authorities. In a first project step, 3,522 taps were identified, compatible with the installation of these parts. Then, a Pilot Project was developed at the Basic Cycle II building, where an average 30% water saving was observed after the aerator installation. On the last step, after the installation of more than 3,000 parts throughout the campus, an average decrease of 15% in the monthly water consumption was observed, according to measurement by SANASA. This percentage accounts for an approximate average volume of 11 million liters of water per month, generating a monthly saving of BRL 396,000 and annual saving of BRL 4 million, according to the rate of BRL 36 per cubic meter (average), charged by SANASA to the University. It is important to emphasize that other measures taken promptly by the University also contributed partially to obtain this saving, but the project results showed the possible water saving potential, taking into account that in every tap where the super-economic aerator was installed, there is an average saving of 4 liters of water per minute.
