| Summary: | This study has an exploratory and qualitative nature and is based on an interdisciplinary literature review. We discussed issues regarding the potential contributions of the University (and of HEIs in general) to local/regional development based on in-service learning, with the concept of endogenous development as the guiding thread. We also outlined some recommendations so that the curricular integration of university extension can generate transformative practices. The insertion of the extension into university curricula will be able to promote substantial changes in the way theoretical knowledge and practical experiences are learned by students. Besides, by promoting the protagonism of the communities receiving the actions, the social application of university knowledge and the flow of knowledge in a two-way street are also encouraged and valued. |
